Pony Car's For Style
Pony car is certainly a term typically created in America that has spread throughout the world today. Pony cars are a brand of automobile units typically developed and improvised from the Ford Mustang. Sporty and stylish with a V8 or a V6 engine mounted at the front of the car, these cars are small and powerful. The design of pony cars includes a distinctive long hood and short deck architecture. While the V8 engine provides more efficient exhaust system designs and faster acceleration, it certainly has back lags of its own. The V8 engine suffers from dynamic imbalances.
The concept of pony car's came into existence when ford was desperately trying to cope with its lack of innovations after the thunderbird had been scrapped from further productions. It took inspiration from a Chevrolet model called 'Covair'. Even though huge number of cars was distributed into the market at this time, none came closer to the extremely popular brand of pony cars. Some of the cars released during this time are Buick Skylark, Dodge Dart, Pontiac LeMan's, etc. So huge was the impact of this car that it sold around 6 million orders in the foundation year in 1964 itself. It was to be followed by a huge sale furthermore for several years later.
The pony cars created a niche for themselves as soon as they hit the market. With the market demanding more of sporty looking cars, the pony cars with their bucket seats, full wheel cover and floor shifters became the perfect answer to this demand. Furthermore, when manual gearboxes along with air-conditioning, and radios were introduced at a comparatively low price limit, it easily became the buyer's most favorable choice.
While most of the cars were sold due to its sheer style and class the youth oriented advertising of these cars and an affordable price limit played the trick. A sporty car with enough power and speed to actually be cool withouth a huge ticket price or unaffordable car insurance. Even though pony car's saw a massive sale, the car's with higher end configuration and performance were mostly restricted to drag-racing, road-racing etc. It was now that in response to the massive sale of mustang that the other automobile units started developing more cars to regain the lost market. It so became that all car's produced during this period were hence regarded as pony car's. Some of the cars produced to counterfeit the mustang effect during this time were Chevrolet camaro, Dodge challenger, and Plymouth barracuda. This intense action and counter action of producing cars and return cars was regarded as "The Pony car war" period.
Pony cars saw its decline during the later years of the seventies. However, even though sales dipped, it continued to stay in the market. The eighty's saw a further lowering in pony demands due to introduction of heavier engines and more improvised safety features. Certainly, the sales for pony cars have dipped in the recent past but the legend and might of pony cars in itself is enough to carry its legacy to the twenty first century and still begins to grow. In lesser words it may be said that pony car's today have become no less than immortal today.
